Well, nearly – a slow fifteen minutes on the treadmill.
I woke up the day after Comrades wanting to run, wanting to prove to myself that the horror was a once off. I felt really positive and ready to go. However my right ankle and shin were deep red and swollen. I wasn’t going anywhere fast.
I recovered from the gastroentiritis followed by flu (my immune system was shot to pieces) but a week later my still swollen ankle didn’t have a full range of movement.
I’ve now rested for three weeks (the tendon causing the problem is still lumpy, but I’m over it). I strapped my ankle tightly, set the machine to 8.5km per hour and held my breath. Not bad, only a few twinges. We’ll be back tomorrow doing twenty.
